208 to 1000 Challenge Day 9
Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2:26 PM
I'm gonna be quick today because there is a lot to read below. This morning I weighed in at 202.5, thats a half pound loss. Hopefully by the start of next week I can either be under or at 200 lbs. Thats the goal for me. As far as food goes, for breakfast I had a strawberry flavored non fat yogurt with some fresh fruit and some granola sprinkles.
Lunch will be a new adventure, especially for GG. For lunch we will be having Cat fish with brown rice and steamed asparagus. Sounds pretty healthy, lets see how the troops react. Hope they like it. Dinner will be a turkey wrap that I'm sure everyone will like. Jenny is cooking the fish right now and it smells great. I will include a pic for you guys to enjoy. Thats it from my camp, lets move on to you guys.
Today is Testimonial Tuesday so that means we get to hear from you guys and how you are doing. Ive read all of these testimonials and I'm really happy for everyone. We all seem to have different but similar approaches to this diet so I think we can learn a lot from each other here. Below you will find testimonials from Alton, GG, Kindra, Katie, Jack, Brandon, and Sam All Jam. Thanks for letting us into your world, you guys are awesome.
Testimonial Tuesday
dummies:
So here I am and I'm ready to talk about our collective effort to get more fit and healthy. goze is leading the charge on the heels of mine and jenny's water diet, which last year yielded some positive results in our lives. this focus is more on nutrition (or lack of) and i gotta admit ... it's working. it's not fun, but the scale don't lie. now, i'm not at the point where i can say i feel SOOO rejuvenated that i'm ready to conquer the world, but i do feel better.
i've been putting in the time at the gym, so in conjunction with this tightening the screws on the nutrition front ... i think i can actually make a major move towards last year's goal of 210 in 2010 and this year's 211 by 2/11. both were complete flops but i did lose 20 pounds and kept it off. i just wasn't able to power through and continue losing weight. i hit a wall and now goze is helping me climb that wall.
it sounds like many others are also doing the same and it'll be interesting to see how much we can all lose as a group. a tight knit group. :-)
take it easy, will ya?!

I must admit that the food part of this diet thing is the toughest part. As my name implies, I do love bready sweets. But, I have been pretty good as of late in avoiding most of that yummy goodness. I drove right by Montilio's bakery and only looked back once...okay, maybe twice.
I agree with Goze that it is tough to stick to a diet when there are other people involved in the food choices. The husband has a particular aversion to any and all leafy greens and colorful vegetables, which makes it difficult to prepare evening meals. So, two meals get prepared every night.
The workouts, however, are going very well. I go to the gym about 5 times a week. Despite my knee swelling up to the size of a grapefruit every night, my running has been pretty good. So good that I might try to run a 10K in October.
Overall, I'm down only about 3 pounds. But at least I'm going in the right direction! :-)

Las Vegas or Bust; literally!
By Sam “ALL JAM”
Well family Goze’s challenge to lose weight before the Memorial Day weekend Junkie Conclave couldn’t have come at a better time. It is one thing to train and to be considered in shape, but truth is if you don’t diet properly along with it, you’re just training to survive. I don’t want to just survive, I want to live! So with that, I am in with you guys on this challenge.
If you know me, you will know I won’t lie and I won’t sugarcoat anything. Last Thursday I weighed in and to my shameful surprise the scale said 249 lbs. However, I have been training hard lately as exercise has never been an issue for me; I love to workout. My problem is I love to eat as well. Good food as my wife is a great cook, especially Caribbean cuisine, and junk food as well; you name it, I claim it.
Sadly, three years ago I let myself get this high, 244 lbs., and over three months after watching what I ate, while continuing to train, I lost 35 lbs. I say sadly, because I let myself get to this point again, but I know a challenge like this is what I need. Unfortunately, I’ve just come back from a couple of days at the Jersey Shore where all I was doing was eating and chillin’. ‘Jersey Shore’ renowned Rivoli’s and I-Hop were just a couple of destinations.
However, I am happy to say that I got on the scale right before posting this blog and am happy to report it said 246 lbs. Yes, all that food and junk and yet I am down three pounds in five days. Guess all that walking along the boardwalk didn’t hurt. This has given me incentive and I will be back at training tonight “hard,” so don’t worry family, I’m in it to win it. Las Vegas or Bust; literally!

I'm down 5 pounds since starting toward this weight loss goal and am working toward dropping 6 more by the time I set foot in Vegas. I was already exercising consistently so now I've gone back to the Water Diet to help jump start the plan. While I miss the taste of coffee, I suffered no withdrawals. Simple carbs seem to be what I'm cutting out of my diet - no mashed potatoes with steak or bread with pasta; I still make them for the other half, but I've replaced such treats with complex carbs like brown rice or oatmeal. The hardest part is cooking for someone who doesn't want to diet. It is more work to cook two meals for every meal but I'm determined to make the scale bow down to my will. Even for our anniversary, I made tiramisu cupcakes and only had one (licking the bowl doesn't count, for the record).

I have finally broken the 170 mark! I started 2 months ago a svelte 190 lbs, or as some may call it “skinny flabby”. Today is the first day I have stepped foot in a gym, and after a hardcore 20 minutes of lifting, I walked away happy. My goals were simple; my hands touch some type of weight and either push or pull around 5-10 times without hurting myself. I will do that one more time, then next week, repeat with even more weight. Yesterday I hit the pool for some swimming, and although I looked like I was fleeing a shark attack, I got >30mins of cardio in.
Anything is better than nothing is my motto right now.
As for eating, I started with the same philosophy. I simply cut out these items to start: refined sugars, processed foods, bleached wheat flour, and high fructose (or any other) corn syrups. Also, I shop in the outside lanes of the grocery store and try to avoid food that comes in a box or a wrapper, or has been handled by a pimply faced 17-year-old. Now that I am comfortable with the diet, I have moved on to raw, organic, and green foods.
Tonight I am using my new Vitamix to make asparagus soup from scratch. I will add some fruits, which along with greens I eat without restrictions. I only have 4 more pounds to go and I have reached my weight goal, and now that I am near a healthy weight (for me) I plan to increase exercise, and maintain around 11-14% BF.

Guys, glad to see your taking the workout/health/eating thing more serious! For me I have been working out half of my life and the key is routine and consistancy. I start my day with oatmeal, fruit and some protein. Its crucial you start your day with a good healthy meal, especially when you workout. I could go on but I'm already boring myself.......Keep it up!

Thanks guys for sharing this journey with us. My battle is with sweets. I have a whole box of chocolates that Kela from Hawaii brough us, they have been in the fridge since Wednesday and have not opened them yet. Everytime we go to the grocery I hear the Bakery calling my name, but I have Goze pulling my other arm and pulls me away.
It must be hard for you Kindra and Katie when your other half isn't on board. Its been easy in the kitchen for me since I don't have to make this great big meal anymore.
Sam: I was shocked you gained that weight but then happy you lost some. Its a great start.
Alton: Raw diet really! Good Luck with that. It sounds really hard but your the only one that can do it for sure. You have always had good will power.
Brandozinho: hopefully this last. so far it hasn't been as bad as I thought.
Jack: I have always drank water but 1 gallon is still hard for me, but I'm trying. My cardio is getting better. I started with one mile on the eliptical and now I'm up to 3.5 miles.
Keep it up guys and keep us posted cause it sure does motivate me.
Whats up with the updates Goze? I hope your not slacking on the diet because you had been doing so well. Keep up the good work buddy and don't let GG's weak will power rub off on you.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm feeling pretty good. I've been pretty faithful to water in the last week and it seems to have jump-started something. I'm down another pound. Not as much as I would have hoped, but it is still progress.
My workouts are epic, if I do say so myself. But, as I've said, working out has never been my problem.
It's getting tough to make two meals for dinner every single night. It always makes me sad to see that he gets to eat rice, potatoes and pasta and I don't. Mmmm... starchy carbohydrates!!!!
Keep it up, team!!

Guys, awesome your are sticking to this! Once you get your nutrition on board with the working out good things happen. My next "tip" would be something I live by; you gotta get your shirt wet. What I mean is, if you want to be in shape/loose weight, you have to workout hard enough to where you getting your shirt wet with sweat. If you leave the gym dry, your not living up to your potential. Congradulations on four years!
P.S. I may have double posted this, sorry
